Evaluating Social Studies curriculum of the Primary Stage in Kuwait

This research aims to investigate the comprehensive syllabus of social studies in the Kuwaiti primary education, the problems it encounters, and the suggestions for is development.

To realize this aim the study starts with a theoritical survey of the old and modern concept of the curriculum and its components in the light of the modern educational trends. The syllabus of social studies in the Kuwaiti primary schools is also surveyed.

The field of the study is based on a questionnaire given to teachers and supervisors working at schools in teaching and supervising social studies. The questionnaire covers the areas of educational objectives, selection and organization of the social studies syllabus, using visual aids and learning resources, using extra-curriculum activites, and methods of evaluation.

The research has shown that there are slight difference between the two sample (teachers, supervisors) as evalution grades. In some domains, the difference were statistically significant.

The recommendations built on the research can be considered as indicators and suggestions for development tendencies in the cocial studies syllabus at Kuwaiti primary education.
