The two-semester system in Secondary Schools in Kuwait: An Evaluation Study

Auther : Hassan Taha & Mohammad I. Al-Katari

This study aims at explaining and evaluating the application of the newly launched two-semester study system in Kuwait Secondary Schools.

This evaluation is based on assessments made by a representative sample of teachers, administrators, inspectors and students whose opinions are sought in five main areas relating to the different aspects and components of that system.

The results of the study have shown that has there has been a favourable and positive overall effect on students and teachers concerning human relationship, study problems, discipline, discipline and teaching-learning situations. The Application of the system has also shown a good degree of easing up the work of inspectors and school administrators compared with the old whole-year system.

Certain negative notes have been detected in the responses of the study sample, particularly the teachers, concerning work-loads and other by-products and practices within the system. These negative aspects and application flaws are analysed and explained.

In the light of the study findings, a set of recommendations is suggested to render the two-semester system in Kuwait secondary schools more functional and more contributive to the achievement of the system’s goals.
