Auther : Khaleel El-Khaleeli & Mohammad Sabbareeni & Fathi Malkawi

The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of two pre-service training strategies for science student teachers on their attitudes towards teaching.

The sample included all students enrolled in methods training course in science education at Yarmouk University in the second semester of the academic year 1984-1985. The students were divided into two groups. The training of the first group was mainly conducted in schools (school-based), while the second group was trained mainly by simulation teaching in campus (campus based). An attitude scale was used to test the attitudes of students towards teaching. The scale was administered to all students before training and was to repeated after the training was completed.

The results of the study did not revel statistically significant difference in attitudes towards teaching related to method of training. The results also did not reveal that statistically significant difference related to sex or to the interaction between methods and sex.

However, the study revealed a high statistically significant improvement in attitudes of science student teachers towards teaching at the end of training compared with their attitudes at the beginning of the training course.

But, the improvement in attitudes of male students who were trained by the school-based strategy was not statistically significant compared with he improvement of their colleagues who were trained by the campus-based strategy. In contrast, the improvement of female students was statistically significant for both groups (the school-based group, and the comps-based group).
