Mainstreaming In G.S. Schools as seen by Blind Students in Kuwait

Auther : Ghazi A. Al-Rasheedi & Bedour I. Al-Maili

The study aims at exploring the attitudes of the visually handicapped students toward mainstreaming into public schools. Eleven blind students were interviewed.

Results indicate that half of the visually handicapped students who finished the intermediate stage chose to join AL RAJA secondary school (special school). Those who joined the public schools believe that they have gained many personal and social benefits from that experience. However, they complain from some learning problems. On the other hand those who didnt join the public schools think that they face social and psychological problems.

The two characteristics that help visually handicapped students to join the public schools is self-confidence and strong personality.
