Vocational adjustment and its relation to burnout in Kindergarten education

Auther : Mohammed R. Eassa

Kindergarten teachers represent a growing occupational group. The goal of this study is to shed some light on two variables playing a pivotal role in determining the functioning and well- being of this group.

These two variables are: vocational adjustment, and burnout. Two instruments are developed, based on Harrisons The Person- Environment Fit Model. Date from 105 kindergarten teachers, selected from 5 educational zones in Kuwait, indicate that scores on both variables tend to be normally distributed. Findings also show no significant differences due to some demographic variables: viz: age, years of experience, qualification, kindergarten location.

Comparing data of vocational adjustment, with data collected from preservice student teachers (N=21) reveal no significant difference between preliminary practice and extended one.

Negative correlation betwen vocational adjustment and burnout for kindergarten teachers proves non - significant. These findings are examined and interpreted within the theoretical framework and other empirical results. Recommendations, to further care for child care workers, are also cited.
