Students ratings of teaching performance in geography departments at three Saudi Universities and their opinions toward employment opportunities for geography graduates

Auther : Rshood M. Khraif & Mohammad S. Al-Mogarry & Amir A. Al-Motair

The paper was aimed to study the opinions of Saudi university students, majoring in geography, towards the importance of student rating of both teachers and courses, in addition to their views of the employment future prospects for geography graduates. It was also aimed to identify the determinants of students rating of teachers. It utilized a sample of 930 students of both sexes.

The results showed clearly that students believed in the importance of rating of both teacher and courses in improving courses and teaching performance. On the other hand, there was a large proportion of the students who felt that employment opportunities for geography graduates are scarce.

With regard to determinants of students rating of teaching performance, the results of stepwise regression indicated that course difficulty, expected grade, contribution of the course, were statistically significant. Therefore, these variables should taken into consideration when dealing or using student ratings for any purpose.
