Frustrating effects and ways of adaptation associated with obstructions against the satisfaction of the Kuwaiti Citizens needs during the Iraqi aggression

This study aims at recognizing the frustrating experiences associated with obstacles against the satisfaction of the Kuwaiti citizens needs during the period of the brutal Iraqi aggression. It also aims at recognizing methods and activities of adaptation used by the citizens in order to overcome the obstacles, including the defense mechanisms or ego defenses as considered as one of the psychological disorders in certain cases.

Within the framework of this general aim, the study tries to test the supposition of Frustration - Aggressions, and to test the effects of the variables of sex and place of residence during aggression on the frustrating experiences, the methods of adaptation and defense mechanisms associated with them.

The study is based on a codified questionnaire especially designed to be convenient for its aim and subject. The questionnaire has been applied on a random sample of 1000 persons. This sample contains four sub-samples of 250 persons each, distributed according to sex (males or females) and place of residence during the Iraqi aggression (inside or outside Kuwait).

The study concludes results showing, as a whole, the intense and variety of the stressing events, a Kuwaiti citizen has experienced as a result of the trauma of Iraqi aggression. The sufferings generally increase inspite of the statistically indicating variations among the groups in the sample of the study.

The main results of this study are the following:-

1. The frustrating situations, Kuwaiti citizens have gone through are concerned with two significant concepts. Firstly, the violation of the national supremacy of their country by the Iraqi aggression. Secondly, the obstacles against the satisfaction of the basic needs. The first concept seemed to be more frustrating for the inside group. The second concept showed, in some of its factors, frustrating experiences for both the inside and the outside groups. These factors were declaration of Kuwait as a part of Iraq and cancellation of the Kuwaiti passports. Some other factors were more frustrating for the inside group (cancellation of the Kuwaiti Nationality - cancellation of the Kuwaiti currency and civil card - evacuation of the native citizens from Kuwait) whereas the historical dependency of Kuwait to Iraq was more frustrating for the outside group compared to the inside group.
