Level of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation and its relationship to some variables

The study aimed to asses the level of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation for College of Education students, and how it varies according some independent variables which is sex, major, number of courses finished, and grade point average.

Special scale was developed and tested to measure intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Data was gathered from 250 students, and found the following results:

1 - In intrinsic motivation (IM) 15 out of 17 item were statistically significant at, 05 level.

2 - The Sample distribution, for IM, was negatively skewed which indicants higher IM.

3 - In extrinsic motivation (ExM), 16 out 19 items were statistically significant at, 05 level.

4 - The graphic presentation of ExM was close to normal distribution curve.

5 - IM and ExM were negatively related.

6 - Females exeeded male in IM. Students in applied colleges were statistically better in IM than students in theoritical college.

7 - There was no real differences between either male and female or students from applied college and theoritical colleges in ExM.

8 - GPA was not a factor in deciding the level of IM or ExM.

9 - Beginer student, middle, or senior student did not differ in IM or ExM.
