Evaluation of Inset dourse for teachers of English as a foreign language in the Primary Stage (EFLPS) in Kuwait

The study was undertaken to evaluate a short term INSET programme organized for the first grade EFL teachers at the primary schools in Kuwait. The aim was to ascertain the strengths and weaknesses of such programme components as objectives, workshops, theoretical aspects, trainers and organization in order to suggest areas for improvement. Accordingly, a questionnaire was distributed to a sample of EFLPS teachers from both government and private schools who attended the course.

The results indicated that the trainees overall evaluation of the INSET course was favourable. There were some significant differences in assessment with regard to school type, nationality and teaching experience. Significant differences also emerged between groups regarding the theoretical component.

The study concluded with suggestions for organizing future INSET courses on EFLPS and language proficiency.
