Hidden Curriculum: Its definition components, and dangers

    The current study tackles the problem of hidden curriculum and its effects upon students during the process of socialization in schooling. In the first part of the study, emphasis has been given to the vital role played by the critical literature in education in discovering what is called the hidden curriculum. Being different in its nature, dealing with the problem of hidden curriculum requires certain specific methodology and procedures. Accordingly, the researcher started this study by criticizing the traditional research methods. At the same time, the researcher introduced an alternative methodology for tackling such a problem.

    At the beginning, the researcher contemplated the concept of hidden curriculum, then gave a definition for such a concept. Besides, different points of views of other researchers concerning the definition of hidden curriculum have been touched upon. Hidden curriculum has been analyzed into six components as follows: 1- Class organization and class furniture and equipment’s, 2-School facilities , 3- School schedule and the way time is allocated for subjects, 4- Culture of the learner and its relation to the prevailing culture, 5- Teachers back-ground, and finally, 6-School text books and their being tending to serve the prevailing culture.
