Factors affecting the academic performance of psychology students at Kuwait University

This study tries to identify those variables which could be used for the prediction of the psychology students grade point average (GPA) at Kuwait University. High School Ratio (HSR), High School Division (HSD), High School System (HSS), sex, S.E.S level, and students preference for psychology were used as predictor variables. Also, the study tries to investigate the possible differences between those who have been admitted to the Psychology Department directly from high school and those who transferred from other departments to Psychology Department. To examine student performance over the academic years, the records of 555 psychology student at Kuwait University were studied. The results indicated that there is a significant correlation between the HSR and GPA. The GPA of the female students were higher than that of male students, and that the GPA for Science Division students was significantly higher than those in Arts Division. The study found significant differences among the GPAs of the students in the Ist., 2nd & 3rd. years.No other significant differences were found.
