Auther : Osama H. Maajeeny

The study aims at assessing the most pervasive behavioral characteristics of gifted students as perceived by their teachers in the State of Kuwait, the State of Qatar, The State of Bahrain, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

It tries to answer the following questions:

1 - What is the most pervasive characteristics of gifted students as they are perceived by the teachers?

2 - Do these characteristics differ as the gender of the teachers differs?

3 - Do these characteristics differ as the nationality of the teachers differs?

The sample of this study consisted of (426) male and female teachers from the four gulf states. Their opinions were assessed by a 4-point Likert scale questionnaire which contained (86) characteristics divided into three major subscales related to the type of the characteristic.

The major findings of the study are:

1 - Forty three characteristics were found to be very pervasive among the students, out of which (25) characteristics were learning motivation characteristics, only nine were creativity characteristics, and nine were leadership characteristics.

2 - Minor differences were found in the number and the order of the characteristics when they were divided by gender of the teacher. However; statistical differences were found between the means of (15) of the most pervasive characteristics as they were assessed by the teachers when they were divided by gender. Most of which were in favor of the female teachers.

3 - Some differences were found in the number and the order of the characteristics as they were divided by the nationality of the teacher. However, statistical differences were found between the means of (56) characteristics as they were assessed by the sample of the study when it was divided by nationality. Most of which were in favor of the samples of Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

In conclusion, forty - three pervasive characteristics are drawn from this study. Most of these characteristics are learning and motivation characteristics, which are related to the academic giftedness of the students.
