The Level of Organizational Climate in Kuwait University Colleges and its Impact on Perceived Leadership Support: A field Study

Auther : Dr. Meznah S. Al-Azmi

This study aims to determine the level of the prevailing organizational climate in Kuwait University colleges and its impact on leadership support adopting a descriptive analytical approach. A questionnaire was used to collect the data. The field study was administered to a random sample of (103) faculty members. Findings show that (1) the perceptions of the sample members regarding the level of the organizational climate in the Kuwait University colleges were medium in all dimensions in general. (2) There were no statistically significant differences between the means of the sample members in terms of gender, academic rank and type of college. However, there were moderate statistically significant differences that could be attributed to the experience variable in the second dimension (Inter-Personal Relationships) in favor of those with an experience of less than five years. (3) The respondents' perceptions of the level of leadership support in the Kuwait University colleges were moderate in general. (4) There were no statistically significant differences for the level of leadership support that could be attributed to the gender variable, academic rank, years of service, and type of college. (5) The level of leadership support could be clearly predicted by defining the degree of organizational climate prevailing at Kuwait University colleges as the organizational climate dimensions accounted for 48.4% of the variation in leadership support. (6) The most predictive organizational climate dimensions of the level of leadership support were the second dimension (Inter-Personal Relationships) and the third dimension (participation). In light of these results, the study came out with a number of recommendations and suggestions. The most important of these were conducting training courses in modern administrative concepts such as leadership support for university leaders, especially the heads of departments--both old and new at Kuwait University, in particular those who are non-specialists in management.
