The Degree of Teachers' Employment of Geographical Thinking Skills in Teaching Geography Courses in Post Basic Education

This study aims to explore the degree of employing geographical thinking skills in teaching geography courses in post basic education, as well as the contribution of two variables: gender and teaching experience. To achieve the objective of the study, the researchers used the descriptive approach by developing observation list of (23) items, covering five main skills: organizing geographical information, interpreting geographical phenomena, assessing geographical events, and geographical prediction. After checking the validity and reliability of study tool, it was applied to the study sample (24 teachers), who teach the geographical courses in post basic education in Al-Sharqia South governorate. The study results showed that the degree of employing geographical thinking skills in teaching geography courses in post basic education was good, with the overall average is (3.46), In addition, the results showed no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (a=0.05) due to the variables of gender and the level of experience. The researchers provide some recommendations and suggest a set of topics for future studies. Keywords: Geographical thinking skills, Social studies teachers
