The Effect of Supplying the Pupils with Behavioural Objectives on their Achievement and Retention of the Reading Material in the First Preparatory Class in Qatar

Auther : Badriya S. Al-Mula

This study aims at measuring the effect of using behavioural objectives on the pupils achievement and retention of reading material. In order to achieve this objective, the researcher used an achievement test to measure the pupils reading level as well as a list of behavioural objectives for the reading texts.

The subjects of this study consisted of two groups; experimental and control. The experimental group consisted of 115 male and female students, while the control group consisted of 108 male and female students. The experimental group was given behavioural objectives. The experiment lasted nine weeks. The researcher used T-test to test the difference between the two groups. The findings suggest that the use of behavioural objectives at the beginning of each lesson and informing the students about them increased the students achievement in reading as well as increasing their retention of the reading showed that the students with lower intelligence abilities benefited a lot from the strategy of informing them o the behavioural objectives at the beginning of each lesson, especially at the level of comprehension. Finally, the researcher made some recommendations and suggestions in the light of the results of the study.
