Wars, Childrens disorders and How to deal with crises

Auther : Fatma Nazer

Millions of children, women, and men face daily different crises disasters and wars which cause psychological trauma in short-term and long-term.

Evidences of the effect of wars and other disasters on children and their families indicate such traumatic events lead to stress responses such as increased depression, anxiety, fear and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These responses vary according to age, sex, nature and severity of trauma.

Psychologists and professionals developed special scales in order to diagnose war-related trauma such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Index (PTSD), Childern Coping Strategies Inventory (CCSI).

This study examined a sample of 1283 student ranged between 8 - 15 years old, and a sample of 100 students ranged between 8 - 11 years old.

The purpose of this study was to factor analyze the adapted post-traumatic stress disorder index and estimate the internal consistency of coping scale for the childern.

The results of factor analysis of PTSD show that three factor loadings extracted are responsible for 50% of the total variance of the factor solution. Internal consistency for coping scales for children was 0.85 indicating high reliability for the scales.
