Satisfaction of the first group of Students Enrolled in the Hashemite University as of Experience and Services Received

Auther : Mahmoud Abu Qudais

This study was conducted to assess the degree of satisfaction of the first group of students enrolled in the Hashemite University of the academic and nonacademic experiences they received or experienced during their undergraduate study in the university. The Boulder Undergraduate Survey of Spring 1997 at Colorado University in U.S.A., used by many universities inside and outside the States, was adopted and adapted by the researcher to meet the Jordanian university students needs and circumstances and to be used for this purpose. The population of the study consisted of (477) students representing all students enrolled in the Hashemite University the first year the University began its programs, and who spent more than six academic semesters in the university (excluding summer semesters) at the second half of the academic year 1998/99.

The study sample consisted of (286) male and female students (60% of the population) selected randomly according to a proportional stratified sampling from the 17 academic departments in the three colleges available in the university at that time with a response number of (224) students.

The necessary means, standard deviations, percentages and frequencies were computed to identify the students Assessment for the degree of satisfaciton of their general experiences, their experiences in their academic specialization, and their opinion about campus life and future expectations. 2-WAY ANOVA was computed to identify the effect of the independent variables college and sex and their interaction on these experiences. Some significant differences at the level of (\infty = 0,05) on some of the study aspects were detected. Findings were compared with results of American public universities. Some recommendations for the Hashemite University and other public and private universities have been given.
