Sex Differences in Self-Love Behaviour

Auther : Ibraheem M. Al-Khulaifi

This study aims to shed light on the self-love behaviour. It uses self-love scale, modified to fit Kuwaiti environment in a wider comprehensive scale called Dealing-with-self. The scale is prepared and modified by Dr. Basheer Al Rashidi. The study is applied on a sample (N=155; 75 males and 80 females). Results reveal a low level of self-love behaviour. The total frequency of the responses shows that (21.03%) of the sample do not adopt the manners which match self-love (within behavioural phenomenon of the test). It also reveals that 29.5% show self-protection behaviour. The total frequency of responses shows an increase in self-love indicating a rise from (10.1%) to (39.7%). The highest frequency is only in the dimension of self-development which reveals a high self-love while the lowest frequency is in the dimension of self-acceptance. These results are affirmed from the mean of total degrees of the sample according to the scale of self-love. In relation to self-acceptance and self-protection, there are no significant differences between males and females, but there are significant differences between them as of self-development and the total score of self-love.
