The impact of Non Continuous use of hand - held calculators on Achieving Congnitive objectives of the Multipication Facts of the numbers 2,5 and 10 for Second Graders

Auther : Tala S. Al-Harbi

Using calculators as a tool for learning mathematics and developing abstract and higher levels of thinking, has become an increasingly interesting field of investigation to researchers and mathematics educators. In this direction, an experimental study has been conducted on 130 second graders in Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah elementary schools, to investigate the role of non-continuous use of calculators in achieving cognitive objectives. Students were assigned to two groups; experimental and control. No significant differences have been noticed between the two groups. Findings indicate encouraging pupils to use calculators for the mastery of the subject matter needs more than giving them good calculators. Readiness and cognitive level must be taken into consideration.
