Maths Student-Teachers beliefs about problem solving as Affected by Achievement and Teaching Effecacy Beliefs

Auther : Adnan S. Abed

The present study aims at identifying Maths student teachers beliefs about problem solving and the degree to which these beliefs are affected by their achievement and their teaching efficacy beliefs. Two scales are used for the purpose of this study: Indiana Mathematics Belief Scale-Problem Solving consisting of 30 items and Mathematics Teaching Efficacy Beliefs Instrument-MTEBI comprising 21 items. The sample of this study consists of 85 male and female student teachers majoring in Math Education at SQU College of Education.

Statistically significant differences are found in the mean scores of student teachers beliefs about problem solving. There are also statistically significant differences between the means of their beliefs about problem solving that can be attributed to the levels of their teaching efficacy beliefs and the interaction between those beliefs and their achievement.
