Evaluating the Effectiveness of Technology Integration in Instruction as Perceived by Faculty Members of the Hashemite University

Auther : Samer Khasawnah& Aman Khasawnah

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the extent to which technology has been utilized in instruction by the faculty members of the Hashemite University. The study also investigated barriers to technology utilization, levels of technology anxiety, and sources of technology training. A random sample of 143 faculty members was chosen for the study. A four-stage model was developed to measure faculty members levels of utilization. Results indicated that faculty members are concentrated in the preparation and integration phases more than the adoption and innovation phases. Moreover, faculty members perceived minor barriers and moderate levels of anxiety when attempted to utilize technology in instruction. Moreover, sources of technology training for faculty members were perceived primarily from the following: 75% from training workshops, 91% self-taught, and 14% from university courses. Finally, academic rank and anxiety levels were significant predictors of technology utilization. Recommendations and suggestions for future research are also provided.
