To what extent science education objectives are presented in science teachers lesson plan in Kuwait schools

Auther : Ali H. Al-Kandari

The call for comprehensive students development is a major concern among educators. The affective and psychomotor domains are of great importance as well as the cognitive domain. However, the emphasis on any of these three domains varies based on the philosophy of each educational institute, this variation yields educational acts when goals are converted to objectives then to curriculum and teaching and learning processes. This study analyses behavioral objectives in science teachers daily preparation lesson plan notebook in the state of Kuwait, 3489 behavioral objectives derived from 506 lesson plans. The study also considers the effects of gender and teaching grade (elementary, intermediate, secondary schools). The results show that cognitive objectives have a very high frequency (91.22 %) among the behavioral objectives in science teachers daily lesson plan, and this is true for all level grades, regardless of teachers gender. The researcher recommends that the curriculum philosophy and teacher preparation and training program should be revised to cope with the new findings in the science education.
