Auther : Fawzia A. Gadi & Salah A. Murad

The purpose of this research is to develop two scales: Attitudes towards Teaching and Emotional Stability, and determine their contributions in predicting the academic achievement of student teachers at the College of Education/ Kuwait University. Attitudes towards Teaching Scale consists of 20 items, which are rated on a four-point scale with a reliability coefficient of .94. Emotional Stability scale consists of 16 items rated on a five-point scale with a reliability coefficient of .89. Factorial validity for both scales was also determined by using factor analysis techniques. The two scales were administered on 305 students (16 males, 289 females) who were enrolled at the College of Education/ Kuwait University. Their GPA after one and two years were also collected. The results showed no significant differences between genders on both scales, but there was significant correlation between GPA and both scales (r=.33 with Attitudes Towards Teaching, and r=.41 with Emotional Stability). The correlation between Attitudes Towards Teaching and Emotional Stability scales was high (r= .74). Both scales scores together with High school scores were able to predict student teachers academic achievement.
