Reliability and validity of the draw A-Man test a study based on a sample of Kuwait school children

Auther : Kamal Morsy

A series of studies sought to ascertain reliability and validity for the Draw-A-Man Test (DAM) a sample of 2089 Kuwaiti children was given DAM test. The main sample broken in to sub samples; using different methods to estimate reliability and validity. Findings indicate that DAM is significantly reliable and valid.

Three methods were used to estimate the reliability of DAM Test-retest (sample 261 S), intra-rater, and inter-raters sample 376 S reliabilities are .832, .925, and .892. Respectively.

Three methods were used to verify the validity of DAM and the Kuwait Stanford-Binet intelligence scale and Porteus Maze test samples revealed significant positive values (above .50) the predictive validity was also performed using school achievement as a Criterion, this type of validity yielded coefficients that ranged between .686 and .462. The increase in raw scores with chronological age was taken as an evidence of logical validity.
