Moral judgment and ego strength

Auther : Mohammad R. Eassa

The study is an attempt to specify the relationship between the level of moral judgment operationally defines as D.I.T. “p” score and ego strength as indicated in E.S. collective score. The theoretical from work covers the link between both variables as emerging from the developing relationship between “EGO” and “NOT EGO” in the frame of distinction and integration. It also recapitulates various attempts to relate both variables from the two main perspectives; viz. Kohlberg’s and loevringer’s.

The proposed relationship between both variables falls in two hypotheses:

  1. Significant positive correlation between “P” & “E.S.” scores.
  2. The tendency of high E.S. scores to choose active decisions regarding moral dilemmas more than those classified as low E.S. scorers.

Refining Rest and Baron’s has developed two tools basically. The sample consists of secondary school students (N>77). Results show significant positive correlation between the two variables (r: 0.59 p<0.01). 2 indicate significant differences between frequencies of two types of decisions regarding moral dilemmas: effective vs don’t know, in the divided cells of high/low scores of E.S.

Results have been discussed.
