Roles of science supervisor on the growth of professional development of Junior high school science teachers

The goal of this study was to specify the roles of science supervisor on the growth of professional development of junior high school science teachers. To achieve this goal a questionnaire was developed, consisting of 28 roles, classified into four categories (domains), science content, strategies of teaching, supervisions visitations, and evaluation.

The population consisted of all science teachers; science supervisors, and all principals of junior high schools at Riyadh City in Saudi Arabia. Cornbach alpha and Found to be 0.78 calculated reliability. Frequency, percentage, one was Anova, and Scheffe test were used to analyse the data, the result of the study indicated the followings:

  1. Twenty roles of science supervisor roles obtained more than 80% of strongly agreement and agreement together from the whole population and from each group.
  2. There were Statistically significant differences (x=0.05) among the three groups in the level of agreement of the science supervisor’s roles.
  3. There were no statistically significant differences (x=0.05) among the three groups in the level of agreement of the science of the supervisor’s roles in science content.
  4. There were no statistically significant differences (x=0.05) among the three groups in the level of agreement of the science supervisor’s roles in strategies teaching.
  5. There were statistically significant differences (x=0.05) among the three groups in the level of agreement of the science supervisor’s roles in supervisions visitations.
  6. There were statistically significant differences (x=0.05) among the three groups in the level of agreement of the science supervisor’s roles in evaluation.

Finally the results have been discussed and some recommendations have been stated.
