Alienation Manifestations in the Poetry of Pablo Neruda and Ghazi Al Gosaibi: A Comparative Literature Study.

Auther : Dr. Sabah H. Alswefan

Goal of the study: This study examines the manifestations of poetic alienation between the two poets: the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda (1904-1973), and the Saudi poet Ghazi Al-Gosaibi (1940-2010). The study of the alienation manifestations in the poetry of Pablo Neruda and Ghazi Al-Gosaibi is a comparative literature a literary field that seeks through its mediation to compare the similarities and differeces between them in terms of artistic visualization, and the aesthetics of stylistic formation such as storytelling and narration, as well as through highlighting the manifestations of self, psychological and spatial alienation, in addition to comparing the artistic menas that each of them utilized to express the different forms of alienation.
Study Meghodology: In this study, the researcher followed the American Shool approach of Comparative Literature, which is based on two important principles; the first: the ethical principle as it considers accepting other cultures, and believes in the unity of literature experiences, transcending linguistic, racial and political boundaries. The second principle is the cultural or intellectual principle based on belief in the freedom to read creative experiences searching of their aesthetic and stylistic features, using the tools of analysis and comparison. Perhaps one of the most important grounds for choosing the study for the comparative approach of the American School is beacuse it studies poetic phenomena from a different perspective more than one literature, and makes the comparison based on points of significant connection, such as similarities and differences between the two poets, This gives the study seriousness and development in the field of comparative literary study.
Study Type: A comparative literature criticism of the manifestations of alienation for two poets: Ghazi Al-Gosaibi and Pablo Neruda.
Study Results: The study reached many results, including that Neruda considered alienation as a source of complaints and pain, while Al-Gosaibi considered it as a source of asking about the alleged victory. For the two poets, the image of external alienation was based on the perception associated with sound and movement: the sound for Al-Gosaibi is an end and a perishability, while it was associated with moments to reach the dream and knowledge for Neruda. The movement for Al-Gosaibi is a symbol of the estranged self from its reality but for Neruda, it represented the movement and image of death. The spacetime alienation for the two poets was associated with multiple meanings: psychological restlessness for to Al-Gosaibi, and injustice and oppression for Neruda. Likewise, for Neruda, time was an image of the natures, actions and emotions under its influence, while for Al-Gosaibi it was an image of a time of loneliness and hatred competing with every voice expressing truth and justice.
Study Conclusion: The study found out that alienation represented one of the most important features of the poetic experience of both Ghazi Al-Gosaibi and Pablo Neruda, as it is a style expressing the self-experience on one hand, and as a source of imagination in their expreience on the other hand. It also found out that their view of alienation agreed in some cases and differed in other cases.
