A Grammar-based Curriculum Aimed at Understanding Language and its Production: A Case Study of Saudi Secondary School Students.
Auther : Dr. Ahmed S. Al-Ahwal
The present study proposes a grammar-based curriculum which aims to help students comprehend and produce language in order to develop their grammatical skills functionally. To achieve this, the study relies on two sets of tools: comprehension-oriented exercises and production-oriented exercises. The study sample consists of 55 Saudi secondary school students who are divided into two groups: an experimental group of 28 students who used the proposed curriculum and a control group of 27 students who use the traditional curriculum. The results reveal a significant improvement in the performance of the experimental group compared with that of the control group. There are also statistically significant differences between the performance of the two groups in the pre- and post-tests, which exclusively work in favor of the experimental group.
