Characteristics of Family Environment and its Relation to Some Psychological and Studying Variables of High School Students

     The aim of this study is to identify characteristics of family environment and its relation to some psychological and studying variables of high school students. The final sample consisted of (120) students from secondary school with average age (16.6) years, with a standard deviation of (0.98) years. The students were selected from area Hadea, Ahmadi Governorate. This study includes the following tools: a) the academic achievement tests. b) The scale of parental treatment styles. c) The scale of school adjustment. d) The scale of self-esteem. The consistency and reliability of these scales have been previously measured.

      The results showed clearly that: 1) There are differences between students who are positively treated by their parents and those who with negative treatment in the self-esteem and academic achievement and school adjustment. These differences are evident in the first group. 2) There are differences in self-estesm and school adjustment, and mother treatment style. These differences are also evident in the first group. 3) Positive father treatment style is predict to school adjustment and self-esteem and academic achievement. 4) There is a strong positive relationship between school adjustment and the father's positive enforcement style. 5) There is a strong positive relationship between school adjustment and the mother's positive enforcement style. 6) There are differences between students with positivel relate achievements and school adjustment. These differences are related positively to the first group. 7) There are differencves in school adjustment and academic achievement due to the father education level. This difference is related positively to fathers with higher qualifications, and there is no impact to the level of father education on a scale of self-esteem. 8) There are differences in academic achievement due to the level of mother education. This difference is related positively to mothers with primary and intermediate school, and there is no impact to the level of mother education on school adjustment and self-esteem.
