Security Interactions in the Gulf Environment (1971 - 1979)

Auther : Dr. Sulaiman A. Al-Harbi

In the Arabian Gulf, the period  (1971- 1979) has witnessed a drastic political and security turmoil. This turmoil was due to two basic determinates: The British withdrawal from the Arabian Gulf, and the eruption of the Iranian Islamic Revolution. These two factors have increased the density of the reactions within the region, in particular, the concern over security.  Accordingly, those reactions resulted in many political processes; the most important of which was the alliances within the Gulf countries in order to mitigate the effects of the unstable environment.  This paper intends to identify the nature and patterns of those security reactions by implementing the alliance process as a major analytical tool to determine its role and its impact on region.
