Psychological Hardness, Feeling of Hope and Psychological Stress as Predictors of Academic Achievement for SOU Students

     The present study aims to explore the possibility of predicting academic achievement from psychological hardness, feeling of hope, psychological stress, and gender. The sample consisted of 240 students (105 males and 100 females) from Sultan Qabuus University (SQU). Each student completed a psychological hardness scale, a feeling of hope scale and a psychological stress scale, which were all prepared by the researcher. The data were subjected to a correlation analysis in order to test both regression analysis and path analysis. The study yielded the following initial results:

1- There exist statistically significant positive relations between psychological hardness and feeling of hope and academic achievement, whereas there is a negative significant relation between psychological stress and academic achievement.

2- Psychological hardness, feeling of hope and psychological stress explain the largest amount of variance in academic achievement.

3- There exist direct and indirect effects of psychological hardness, feeling of hope, psychological stress, gender and area of specialization on academic achievement.
