Auther : Prof. Mohammad Q. A. Al-Qarioti

The purpose of this study is to examine the level of job satisfaction experienced by a sample of public service employees in Kuwait, and to explore the relationship that holds between personal characteristics and intrinsic and extrinsic aspects of job satisfaction. The sample consisted of (528) employees from four ministries. The results of the study suggest that public service employees in Kuwait enjoy an overall high level of job satisfaction, but they are more satisfied with intrinsic factors than they are with extrinsic factors. In an ascending order, the extrinsic factors which public service employees were not satisfied with are: salaries, working conditions, policy making processes, relationship with superiors, effectiveness of superiors in decision making, and relationship with colleagues. Moreover, one way ANOVA statistical analysis showed statistical differences at significant levels, attributed to the type of ministry, educational qualifications, experience, and gender but not to age. It is hoped that the study findings can enable human resources management to adopt better policies with respect to recruiment, promotion, and incentives in order to achieve higher levels of job employees job satisfaction, which may contribute to the improvement of performance in the public sector. The study also stresses the need to carry out further field research to highlight the role of organizational variables in achieving employees job.
