Fertility in Jeddah City vels and some of its Demographic, Economic and Social Determinants

     This study aims to identify the levels of fertility and the determinants of human reproductive behavior of Saudi women in Jeddah city dependent on sample survey data collected from population study. The questionnaire has been designed to determine the factors that create differences in the levels and reproductive womens behavior in Jeddah city. The study shows that the current rate levels of fertility are very high. The rates of the average number of children for saudi women in Jeddah during reproductive period is four children.The results of the statistical analysis of the data detection show that converter factors (age at marriage, biological factors, and the use of contraceptives) play a role in determining levels of fertility and differences among the Saudi women in Jeddah city. The study points out that economic and social factors strongly affect reproductive behavior. The study also confirms that the level of education, especially education of the mother and womens work are the most important variables affecting reproductive behavior. The study has also found that the preference of sons is one of the variables affecting the reproductive behavior of mothers in Jeddah city. This confirms that the level of mothers education, working women, and the preference for sons are the most important factors affecting fertility in Jeddah city.
