Level of Awareness of Qatar University Students of Democratic Values Inherent in the Various Styles of Social Upbringing in the Qatari family

     The study aims at identifying the availability of the educational democratic values that are included in methods of social rearing inside the Qatari family.

     The random sample included students from Qatar university distributed of different demographic areas at the State of Qatar.  They represent the six colleges at the university:  College of Education, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Shareeha and Islamic Studies, College of Engineering, College of Administration and Economics and the College of Law. The sample included (464) male and female students which represent (7.8%) of the original sociery with percentage (7.2%) and (7.85) respectively.

     The researcher designed a questionnaire that included (84) items among 5 main domains: rights, duties, freedom of opinion, tolerance, and equality. The data have been treated statistically using the statistical program (SPSS).

     Of the most important results reached are the following:

-  The availability of a group of democratic values in the methods of social rearing inside the Qatari family was classified under five categories: rights, duties, freedom of opinion, tolerance, and equality.

- The democratic values that are included in the methods of children rearing and that are related to the category of duties, equality, and tolerance differed according to the sex of the students favoring females in relation to the rights domain; while the differences in the categories of equality and tolerance was in favor of the male students.

- The democratic values that are included in the methods of children rearing differed according to the order of birth where there were differences among students who were first born and the second raters in birth. On the other hand, there were differences among those third raters in birth and older and those of the first of second raters in birth.

- The democratic values that are included in the methods of children rearing and that are related to the category of equality differed according to the academic year. There were differences between those of the first year and third year students favoring the third year ones.

- The democratic values that are included in the methods of children rearing dont differ according to college or specialization, as well as the demographic area.  The study provided a group of recommendations and suggestions for further research in the light of the study results.
