Kuwaiti Houses and Visual Problems
Auther : Dr. Alaa Adin A. Shaheen
This paper deals with the beautification of cities, particularly the city of Kuwait. There are many elements that participate in making the beauty of a city. These elements might be natural or fabricated, e.g. architecture, urban planning, open spaces, squares, streets, street furnishing, and public artwork among other factors.
This research addresses the outside fa¦ades of the contemporary Kuwaiti houses and focuses on the visual issues that negatively affect their beauty and hence the beauty of the city. The objective is to consider devising aesthetic rules and regulations to eliminate these problems and achieve a yet better outlook worthy of the city of Kuwait.
The research discusses a number of issues such as the diversity of the architectural styles and designs of the Kuwaiti houses, the absence of aesthetic rules and regulations, the diversity of colors, materials, and extra additions in the same housing compound, the shapes of the water tanks and antennas in the roofs, the parking shelters that are built with corrugated metal sheets, the inefficient and unattractive use of open spaces in front of residential homes, electrical, cooling, and connections in house fronts, the incompatibility of private tastes, in addition to other details.
