Basic Education and the Concepts of Human Rights: A Sociological Analytic Study of the Contents of the Arabic Language Books in Basic Education in the Sultanate of Oman

Auther : Dr. Rashid Bin H. Bin H. Al-Busaidi

This study explores the concepts of human rights in the Arabic language books in the first and second stages of the basic education in the Sultanate of Oman. The contents of 14 books were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. A table consisting of 20 concepts of human rights was designed. The books at that education stage were found to have an extensive coverage of the concepts of human rights. Some concepts were covered more than others such as cultural heritage, national identity, rights of meeting and cooperation, rights of respecting others, right to a clean environment, and the rights to education. The study also revealed that the presentation of these concepts in the books was not organized and not suitable to students age and knowledge.
