Residences and Architecture of Main Cities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

     The main goal of the study is to identigy characteristics of the existing houses and residential areas in the major cities in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia.  Also to examine residents opinions towards the existing houses and their aspirations regarding the future.

     Data was collected through a sample survey, which was carried out in the sic major cities, namely Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Dammam, Madina and Taif.  The study consists of four main parts.  The first part describes the methodlolgy of the field survey, while the second part deal with the data analysis. Part three is devoted to the discussion of the findings, and the last part is to the recommendations.

     The results show that there are vbariations among areas and in the number of rooms in the different types of houses.  Also large areas (more than one third) of the houses are devoted to reception of guests and consequently are under utilized.
