Political Rights of Women and Public Opinion in Kuwait
Auther : yousuf G. Ali
This paper examines the attitudes of the main sects in Kuwait towards womens political rights. A random sample of 1581 Kuwaiti citizens were surveyed in 1998 and provided data on status differences, social netwoeks, and religiousity. OLS regression analysis demonstared that structural inequality, social network ties and religiousity have different outcomes on the attitudes of Sunnis and Shias towards womens political rights. These differences were obvious within each sect. This reflected the impact of culture on the place of men and women in the society.
