THE ARAB BA’TH SOCIALIST PARTY AND THE GULF’S SOCIETY

Auther : By: Dr. Falah Al-Mdaires

The aim of this study is to highlight the circumstances and the factors, which led to the appearance of the “Arab Ba’th Socialist Party” (ABSP) in the Arabian Peninsula and the Arabian Gulf.

The region witnessed in the early fifties the appearance of many political movements with nationalist, Marxist and Islamic trends, where the Arab nationalist movement, the ABSP and the Nasserite’s Movement were representing the nationalists.

These nationalist movements played an important role in developing the nationalist consciousness and resistance for colonialism; they also played a major role in the political reforms in this region.  However, these movements, which ABSP is one of them, have no clear presence in the Arabian Peninsula and the Arabian Gulf region anymore nowadays.

This study will concentrate on the role played by the ABSP in this region, showing the economical, theoretical and social reasons, which helped it to flourish on one hand, and those reasons, which were behind its failure in this part of the world on the other hand.

The study will concentrate on the period starting from 1951, when the first branch for the ABSP was established in Kuwait, ending with 1990 when Iraq invaded Kuwait.
