PREVALENCE STUDY OF THE PSYCHOLOGICAL STATES AMONG KUWAITIES AFTER THE IRAQI INVASION

The purpose of the present study is to determine the prevailing rates of psychological states such as anger, fear, guilt, interest, joy, disgust, surprise, contempt, shyness, distress and the effect of a specific number psycho-social variables on psychological states, in light of a general hypotheses pertaining to the adverse effect of Iraqi invasion on the present psychological state rates.  This data was collected over a period of five (5) years after the liberation of Kuwait.

The Deferential Emotions Scale (DES) was administered to a sample of 4372 Kuwaiti subjects of both sex, which included the following:

Results revealed that suffering from psychological states varied among the Kuwaiti sub-samples.  A high state rate was found among secondary students.  The research also revealed some significant demographic variables on psychological states rate among the sub-samples such as:

 

-                     Sex

-                     Age

-        Place of residence during the occupation.

-        Exposure to killing and or torture.

 

          Finally, some general conclusions and recommendations were drawn on the basis of the literature relating to the relationship between psychological states and the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
