ECONOMIC ADJUSTMENT OF KUWAITI WOMEN -POST DIVORCE

This paper presents the results of an empirical economic adjustment investigation of the Kuwaiti women post divorce. Detailed interviews were conducted with 258 randomly selected divorced women. Respondents were well distributed according to age, education, income and religious sect.
It was found that there were significant relationships between post divorce income and place of residence, age, children, duration of marriage and employment. The majority of divorcee lived with their parents, brothers or sisters. Their present financial situation is better of the same as it was before. There were very few who received child support yet no one could guarantee its continuity. One third of our sample obtained outside financial aid and most of it from government agencies. It was found that there was a significant relationship between obtaining government financial aid and place and type of residence, income, level of education, employment and children. More than third of our sample consider marriage a possible solution to their financial problems. It was found that there were significant relationships between those who thought of re-marriage and place of residence, type of residence, income, age, children, duration of marriage and employment.
