The urban population has tremendously increased during the last three decades particularly in the developing countries. This has exerted a big pressure on the urban and resulted in a substandard supply and hence deterioration of performance.  Quite a number of recent studies are questioning the effective distribution of urban services.  Many of these dealt with health, educational, commercial and recreational services.  Both developed and developing countries are now concerned with the development planning standards to assure the even distribution and easy reach of the services to all groups and classes of the population.  Most of the studies in this direction have stressed more the service radius and the walk-able distance to these services while ignoring the element of topography as one of the most important spatial characteristics in some areas of a particular physical formation.

This paper looks at the element of topography and will try to determine the extent to which it affects the distribution of mosques in a typical Muslims city.  The study will cover radius service of mosques, their locations and distribution hierarchy of services and the served population.  All these elements are analyzed against the topography and particularly the degree of slope, which directly affects the efforts, put by Al-Musaleen to attend the daily five prayers.

Abha City, in the mountain areas of Asir in the South of Saudi Arabia with its special topographical characteristics has been selected as a case study.  The degree of the slope exceeded 30%.
