STUDENTS’ DRIVING AND ITS IMPACT ON ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS IN RIYADH: KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA

Auther : By: Amer Bin Nassir El-Muteir

This study investigated students’ driving problems and the traffic accidents involved. It also analyzed the geographical distribution of road traffic accidents caused by the teen-aged group in the Kingdom.

In view of the importance of this issue and for lack of sufficient studies, statistics and information in this field, particularly on students’ driving issues, their violation of road traffic regulations and the road accidents occurring as a result and for the purpose of determining the volume of these problems within the student community, questionnaires were prepared and distributed among 900 intermediate and high school students in Riyadh.

The study revealed that a high percentage of intermediate (54%) and high school (87%) students drive cars. Furthermore, it was found that a large portion of these students drives cars to and from schools. It also showed a high and alarming rate of road violation and road accidents that this student’s category causes. This problem requires a great deal of both, governmental and public attention.
