SOME EMOTIONAL STATES AMONG KUWAITIS AND EGYPTIANS: A CROSS-CULTURAL COMPARATIVE STUDY

This study aimed at investigating differences in the prevailing rates of emotional states such as anger, fear, guilt, interest, joy, disgust, surprise, contempt, shyness and distress between Egyptians living in Kuwait and citizens, and also the difference between both cultures and both sexes.  The sample was (725) secondary school teachers: of whom (450) Kuwaitis (135 males and 315 females) and (275) Egyptians (105 males and 170 females).

The Differential Emotion Scale (DES) adapted by Bader AlAnsari 1997 was administered to the sample.  The results showed differences between Kuwaitis and the Egyptians in the prevailing rates of emotional states and also significant cultural differences between both cultures were found on six emotional states such as: anger, distress, disgust, guilt, fear and interest.  Sex differences were shown between both sexes in joy, surprise, guilt, anger, contempt, fear and distress.  In the same time there was an interaction between sex and culture in joy state only.
