SHYNESS: A STUDY OF DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GENDER AND YEARS IN COLLEGE

The study examines the differences between males and females, and their year level at college on Shyness Scale-Kuwaiti Version. The study sample composed of (836) undergraduate students, (202) of which were males and (634) females. The sample was divided into two groups: The first group included those students enrolled in first and second year at college, whereas the second included those enrolled in third and fourth years.

The results showed that females obtained significantly higher mean on Shyness Scale compared to males. Likewise, students in first and second years in college exhibited more shyness than their fellow students in third and fourth years. Differences in shyness scores of males and among college students of different year levels were discussed in the light of psychology of shyness, socialization process and adjustment at college.
