THE CHILDREN AND SAUDI TELEVISION-THE COMMERCIAL CONTENTS-AN ANALYTICAL STUDY

This study aims at examining children’S participation limits, their roles in Saudi TV commercials and the means by which the commercials used to address the children and to know how suitable are these commercials for the nature, habits and values of Saudi society.

The content analysis was carried out on a sample of Saudi TV commercials broadcast during the first three months of the year of 1413H.

The study has shown the following results:

  • Saudi TV is interested in children participation in its commercials, children participation was 55.62 per cent of the sample.
  • Most of the children who participated in the commercials aged between 6-10 years.
  • Song is the first form, which is used in the commercials, which the children participated in.
  • 61.70 per cent of the commercials, which used the children, was about goods and services were not for the children directly.
  • 80 per cent of the commercials, which was addressed to the children, was about foods.
  • The Egyptian pronounciation has been used in 85 per cent of the commercials which were addressed to the children and in 65.62 per cent of the commercials which the children took part in.
