THE INTERNAL STRUCTURE OF KUWAIT CITY IN COMPARISON WITH CITY STRUCTURE MODELS: A STUDY IN URBAN GEOGRAPHY
Auther : By: Dr. Waleed Al-Mnais
The purpose of this paper is to trace three main topics, i.e.:
- to explore and to understand “Models” and to trace their entry to the body of Urban Geography.
- the study of “Models” which were adopted in explaining the structures of other cities in the urban world and
- Studying Kuwait City elaborately in relation to the “Master Plan of 1952”, and to compare it with particular cities.
The study adopts analytical-comparative approach as it proposes certain hypothesis, i.e. Kuwait City model resembles non-industrial city models, but on the other hand, it could be classified with “high income city models” similar to its neighbouring Gulf cities.
Finally, it ends up with a number of urban facts, the most important of which are:
- Kuwait has developed internal urban model and
- It had been planned since the end of the twenties of this century.
This urban fact proofs that Kuwait City witnessed urban planning before the application of “Master Plans” in mid-fifties.
