STATISTICAL FACTS ABOUT CONSUMER COOPERATIVE SOCIETIES IN QATAR

Auther : By: Saif Sayed Al Swedy

This study explores and analyzes the relationship between consumer cooperatives and consumers in the State of Qatar.

The results show that for the members of these societies are a statistically significant power in explaining how they determine the value of their purchases from cooperatives.  However, other factors such as family size, value of shares and the price level in cooperatives fail to reach the designated statistical level.  The income factor is important and shows some explanatory power in determining the value of shares which a given member holds.

In addition, income is found to be statistically significant when we try to explain the underlying factors which could determine of after the behavior of the General Consumer, i.e. non-members, but its elasticity is found to be limited.  This reflects the expected tendency of higher income people to allocate a higher percentage of their incomes to other shopping centers once they experience an increase in their incomes.  (This is expected given the characteristics of cooperatives such: Crowdedness, locations, etc).
