A STUDY OF THE MAJOR TEACHING PROBLEMS AND DIFFICULTIES FACED BY SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHERS

          This study attempts to identify the most major teaching problems faced by social studies teachers in the Intermediate and Secondary Schools of Kuwait.  It concentrates on problems related to teaching loads, school curriculum evaluation, school administration and psychological pressures.

           The sample of the study consists of 96 teachers considering such variables as sex, nationality, academic school level, school location and the teacher’s years of experience.  The data needed were collected through a questionnaire, which was designed for this purpose and consisted of various statements related to these problems.  SPSS program of the Ministry of Education was used for statistical analysis.

           The study reveals the existence of a number of problems faced by the teachers.  It also shows, among other results that non-Kuwaiti teachers are the most sufferers.  Besides, it shows that more experienced teachers felt these problems more than others.  As for the school level and school location, these variables show no effect or difference with regard to these problems.

           Finally, out of the results of this study, the researcher suggests a number of recommendations to officials for the limitation and reduction of its effects on teachers’ performance.
