SOURCES OF AIR POLLUTION IN BAHRAIN AND ITS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Auther : By: A. Jalil M. Zainal

A quantitative and qualitative assessment of sources of pollution in the State of Bahrain was carried out with a view to setting priorities for air pollution control programme and planning.  Emission factors recommended by the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in addition to field survey data were used as bases for calculations.  The results showed that industry is by far the dominant source of air pollution in Bahrain.  90% of all SO2 emissions, 80% of the HC emissions and 50% of all the NOُ emissions are shown to be emitted from only few industrial sources.
